Job Summary

Serves as a staff Environmental Specialist for the Stockton Project Office which is responsible for operations and maintenance that also includes a hydro-power plant (Conditionally Exempt Small quantity generator of industrial solid wastes). The Stockton Project has several hundred miles of shoreline with over fifty eight thousand acres of land and water and receives heavy public use. Activities of lake resources have a major economic impact on surrounding local communities.

Major Duties

  • Make decisions on environmental applications for Project office natural resource management activities to include operations, maintenance, and construction activities.
  • Provides Operations Project Manager technical support and assistance by maintaining proficiency in all applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations, and policies
  • Conduct Environmental guidance and training for lake staff members to insure Environmental Compliance.
  • Participates in natural resources management activities ensuring that natural resources work is in compliance with applicable standards and other requirements.

A. A bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resources management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (You must provide a copy of your transcripts in your application)

B. A Combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (You must provide a copy of your transcripts in your application) In addition to the above, you must also meet the below qualifications:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes an awareness of performing environmental compliance, identifying and interpreting a variety of regulatory factors and environmental compliance regulations. Experience with taking water samples and overseeing permits, as well as tracking fuel and pesticide usage for environmental efficiency using automated tracking systems. Provides visitor assistance, patrols, and enforces Federal Regulations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: [insert applicable field(s) of study]. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
