Job Summary

Serves as the Fire Management Officer of Zion National Park which has a high fire management program complexity level. This is a full-time permanent position.

Major Duties

The Fire Management Officer position based out of Zion National Park presents an exciting opportunity to lead an active, highly complex fire and aviation management program amid the beautiful red rock "color country," of Utah and Northwestern Arizona.

The Fire Management Officer will lead and manage all operational fire, aviation, prescribed fire and fuels, fire ecology, fire information, planning and administration for Zion, Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef National Parks, Cedar Breaks, Pipe Spring, Timpanogos Cave and Rainbow Bridge National Monuments, Golden Spike National Historic Site and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The incumbent will work with partners in three Interagency Fire Management Areas and be an integral part of the Visitor and Resource Protection Division at Zion National Park.

The Duty Station for this position is Springdale, UT. Anticipated EOD is February 2020.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/27/2019-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect either full-time or 40 hours per week. If a part-time work schedule is reflected, the hours must be annotated to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. This position has been identified as one of the key fire management positions under the Interagency Fire Program management (IFPM) Standard. This position has been categorized as a Unit Fire Program Manager with a high complexity level and requires selectee to meet the minimum qualification standards for IFPM prior to being placed into the position. Selective Factors: The applicant must have possessed all of the following National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) incident management qualifications and training requirements to be considered eligible for this position: Pathway #1: DIVS and ICT3 or RXB2

Pathway #2: ASGS and ICT3. Currency is not required for the NWCG qualifications listed above. As a condition of employment must complete M-581 within one year of entry on duty. -AND- Selective Factor: Candidates must possess a minimum of 90-days of wildland firefighting experience, gained through fire line work in containment, control, suppression or use of wildland fire. You must clearly demonstrate this experience in your resume, including the months, days and hours per week at which the work was performed in order to be considered. - AND - Basic Education: This occupation has specific educational requirements. It is your responsibility to show how you satisfy the course requirements for the series(s) you are applying for. If you do not provide information that clearly shows how your completed college course work meets all of the requirements, you will be rated ineligible. Possess a 4-year degree in the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resources management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

a combination of education and qualifying experience which included courses equivalent to a major (24 semester hours or equivalent) as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education which totals four years. To satisfy this requirement, the nature and quality of this course work must have been such that it would serve as a prerequisite for more advanced study in the field or subject-matter area. This means the required course work must show progression beyond the associate degree level in directly related coursework, such that it may be considered to be leading towards a bachelor's degree in the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resources management, chemistry or related disciplines. In addition, to qualify for this position, you must possess the following specialized experience: Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience includes directing and supervising a fire management program that is responsible for wildland fire use, prescribed fire, fire suppression, aviation, fuels and smoke management including planning, program direction, coordination and evaluation; develop, review and analyze fire management plans for ecological soundness and technical adequacy. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range

$74,596.00 - $96,978.00
