Job Summary

The BLM manages more land-245 million surface acres-than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western States, including Alaska. The BLM, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

Major Duties

  • Guide, coordinate and support the JFSP Fire Science Exchange Network.
  • Identify new and emerging science and technology ready to be shared with the fire and fuels management community.
  • Identify management needs, research questions, and technology needs for the Joint Fire Science Governing Board.
  • Organize workshops, meetings, roundtables and field trips to exchange fire research results and determine research and technology needs.
  • Participate as a cadre member in training sessions, workshops, and similar ventures.
  • Coordinate development of fire science and technology transfer products, e.g., digests, briefs, social media.
  • Present research results and technology transfer applications to field practitioners, managers, and policy makers.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:A. Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resources management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position being filled.-OR-B. Combination of education and experience -- Courses equivalent to a major as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.You will need to clearly state your undergraduate/graduate degree(s) and submit your college transcripts or a listing of your college courses that includes hours and grades.ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: In addition to meeting the basic education requirements, you must meet specialized experience requirements.Specialized Experience Requirements: In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement; please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.To qualify for the GS-12 grade level, 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 is required. Examples of work experience include, but are not limited to: experience working with scientists and fire and natural resource managers in order to accelerate the adoption of scientific information, determine research needs and priorities, or demonstrate operational applications of new science.To qualify for the GS-13 grade level, 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 is required. Examples of work experience include, but are not limited to: experienceleading or directing scientists and fire and natural resource managers in order to accelerate the adoption of scientific information, determine research needs and priorities, or demonstrate operational applications of new science.

There is no substitution of education for specialize experience at the GS-12 and above grade levels.

Pay Range

$76,721.00 - $118,603.00
