Job Summary
This position is located in the Branch of Aquatic Species and Habitat Conservation. The position coordinates national aquatic habitat conservation programs. Major Duties
--Identifies need for, develops and supports updates in national policy, procedures and funding priorities and needs for fish passage and aquatic habitat grant programs.
--Reviews and interprets existing, new, and proposed regulations, legislation, statutes, and policies pertaining to fish passage, aquatic habitat conservation, and natural resources.
--Collaborates with Fish and Wildlife Conservation offices to ensure consistent implementation of policies and guidelines and to identify and address emerging fisheries and aquatic conservation issues and opportunities.
--Provides recommendations for cooperative and partnership efforts to develop management opportunities that enhance and protect fish and wildlife and their habitats.
--Responds to requests for information from other Fish and Wildlife Service units, the Department of the Interior, Congress, states, other Federal agencies, fishery management councils, constituency groups, and the general public.
Qualifications
Only experience and education obtained by 03/13/2020 will be considered. Education Requirements: Degree: major in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. A photo copy of official transcripts MUST be (uploaded) submitted by the closing date of this announcement to document educational accomplishment to receive consideration for this position; OR You must have an appropriate combination of education and experience that included coursework equivalent to a major (i.e. 24 semester hours) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline related to this position, PLUS appropriate experience or additional coursework. The quality of the combination must demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of the position and is comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a full four year course of study with a major as described above. You may qualify at the GS-13 level if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of such experience may include: identified need for, developed and supported updates in policy, procedures and funding priorities and needs for fish passage and/or aquatic habitat conservation programs; verbally communicated complex aquatic conservation issues to both scientific and laymen audiences; used various written communication methods to persuasively articulate concerns, conclusions, recommendations, and positions on aquatic conservation issues; and established cooperative working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders involved in aquatic conservation, including individuals and groups with differing viewpoints. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Pay Range
$102,663.00 - $133,465.00
