Job Summary

This position is part of the R2-Oklahoma Ecological Services Field Office with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Incumbent will serve as a Fish & Wildlife Biologist in the Oklahoma Partners for Fish and Wildlife (PFW) Program.

Major Duties

As a Fish and Wildlife Biologist in the Oklahoma PFW Program, the incumbent's responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Implement PFW projects and coordinate conservation provisions of the 1996 Farm Bill, its amendments, and future Farm Bills enacted by Congress.
  • Provide guidance to private land owners with regard to all aspects of resource protection and restoration on private lands, with an emphasis on complex interactions involving wetlands, migratory birds, endangered, threatened, and candidate species and other Federal trust responsibilities.
  • Provide coordination with Oklahoma PFW Program, Regional Office, other Tulsa Field Office personnel, other Federal and State resource agencies, conservation groups, and private individuals.

Qualifications

Only experience and education obtained by 03/13/2020 will apply. BASIC QUALIFICATION(S): To qualify for this position applicants must meet the following basic education and/or experience requirements. Successful completion of a full four-year course of study at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline related to this position. (Note: Transcripts MUST be submitted to document educational accomplishments.); OR An appropriate combination of education and experience that included course work equivalent to a major (i.e. 24 semester hours) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline related to this position; PLUS appropriate experience or additional course work. The quality of the combination must demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of the position and is comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a full four year course of study with a major as described above. (Note: Transcripts MUST be submitted to document educational accomplishments.) MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S), GS-11 GRADE LEVEL: In addition to the Basic Qualification(s), applicants must possess the experience outlined below to qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level. Possess at least one year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level (comparable to GS-09) in the Federal service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include applying biological and ecological principles, concepts, and practices to improve and manage fish and wildlife species and their habitats; applying knowledge of the Endangered Species Act and other federal environmental laws; preparing briefings and writing biological opinions or reports on ecological investigations on land and water resource development projects; and working as a team member in resolving complex and controversial resource issues. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S), GS-12 GRADE LEVEL: In addition to the Basic Qualification(s), applicants must possess the experience outlined below to qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level. Possess at least one year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level (comparable to GS-11). Examples of qualifying specialized experience include applying biological and ecological principles, concepts, and practices to improve and manage fish and wildlife species and their habitats; applying knowledge of the Endangered Species Act, Partners for Fish and Wildlife Act, and other federal environmental laws; implementing farm bill programs with private landowners or other state cost-share programs available for private landowners; preparing briefings and writing biological opinions or reports on ecological investigations on land and water resource development projects; and resolving complex and controversial resource issues. Note: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Applicants will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PROMOTION POTENTIAL: This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed represent the full performance level of GS-12. At lower grade levels, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-12. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.The selectee may be promoted without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

$64,009.00 - $99,741.00
