Job Summary

Major Duties

  • Develop, plan and implement genomics-specific counseling training opportunities.
  • Identify gaps in existing genomics training opportunities to develop new genetic counseling cancer specific continuing education courses.
  • Serve as a liaison with genetic counseling societies, patient support groups and others interested in genomics counselor training.
  • Implement and evaluate the outcomes of innovative training mechanisms including use of simulations for core skill building.
  • Evaluate the potential impact of legislation on current and planned genetic counseling training activities.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Genetic Training Specialist, GS-401 position you must meet the following Education Requirements: Have completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university;

OR have a combination of experience and education which includes courses comparable to a major in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to this position, AND have appropriate experience or additional education which demonstrates similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the duties of this position. In addition, in order to qualify at the GS-13 level, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: assisting in maintaining a rigorous curriculum including enhanced cancer genomics offerings, coordinating cancer genomics-specific evaluations, course evaluations and periodic surveys of program stakeholders; developing, implementing and evaluating genetic counseling training programs and policies; and developing innovative genomics training experiences, such as establishing a simulation center to train core skills. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay. Pay Range

$102,663.00 - $133,465.00
