Major Duties
This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), National Geodetic Survey (NGS) with one vacancy in Silver Spring, MD.

As a Geodesist, you will perform the following duties:
- Serve as a senior scientist participating in formulating, planning, executing, and evaluating updates to the U.S. terrestrial reference frames, primarily through expert knowledge of Global Positioning System (GPS)/Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) ground station networks and satellite orbit analysis. Make decisions, commitments, recommendations, and conclusions that have considerable influence on the development of the National Spatial Reference System (NSRS).
- Identify the need to develop or update operational products, consider data from a variety of sources, and then modify and originate approaches, methods and procedures to complete the development to production cycle. Write, test, maintain and refine GPS/GNSS data processing software in order to improve station positioning accuracy, GPS/GNSS orbit estimation, and reference frame maintenance.
- Serve as a scientific leader by developing long term plans and projects; direct the efforts of and train other scientists; assess complicating factors by isolating unknown, novel and/or obscure conditions; resolve unusual problems and recommend changes, redirection and/or additions to maintain goals/objectives. Establish and maintain standards and create technical guides.
- Represent NOAA on various national and international committees including the International GNSS Service (IGS) and bi-annual analysis center workshops. Disseminate the results of reference frame and GPS/GNSS research at national and international meetings including journals.

To qualify for the 1372 series:
EDUCATION:
A. Degree:Geodesy; or 30 semester hours in any combination of geodesy, mathematics, physics, astronomy, engineering science, surveying, geodetic surveying, photogrammetry, or geophysics. The course work must have included differential and integral calculus.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

To qualify at the ZP-4 or GS-13 level:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements above, applicants must also possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZP-3 or GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Maintaining and updating terrestrial reference frames using knowledge of Global Positioning System (GPS) and/or Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) ground station networks;
Writing, testing and refining GPS/GNSS data processing software to improve station positioning accuracy, orbit estimation and/or reference frame maintenance; and
Disseminating results of reference frame and/or GPS/GNSS research.
Pay Range
$99,172.00 - $152,352.00
