Job Summary

This position is located within Information Services Division, Research Support Branch for the Economic Research Service in Kansas City, MO. In this position, you will serve as a resource in geography and in the application of the Geographic Information System.

Major Duties

  • Translates research goals into functional applications and designs the cartographic and report outputs that address the goals and objectives of each analysis.
  • Researches existing and emerging spatial and spatial attribute databases related to the food and agricultural system.
  • Works on cartographic design and data visualization, assists in designing and developing publication-ready graphics to support agency's research publications.
  • Helps design, load and manage file structures and databases to allow functional access to geospatial and attribute data supporting agency research needs

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

1. Degree: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields

2. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. AND Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. Qualifying experience for GS-12 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience utilizing a Geographic Information System to capture, manipulate, analyze, manage and present geographical data; prepare costs and benefit reports on the acquisition of new data sets. Qualifying experience for GS-13 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-12 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience utilizing a Geographic Information System to capture, manipulate, analyze, manage and present geographical data; prepare costs and benefit reports on the acquisition of new data sets; and ensure that data sets comply with organization requirements and standards. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range

$77,501.00 - $119,810.00
