Major Duties

The mission of the Office of Energy Projects is to facilitate potential benefits to the nation through the review of natural gas and hydropower infrastructure proposals and minimize risks to the public associated with FERC jurisdictional energy infrastructure. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is seeking a highly motivated and qualified candidate for an exciting full-time permanent position within the Division of Pipeline Certificates. The position is located in the Washington Office. The incumbent will serve as a staff geologist analyzing applications for natural gas storage in underground formations. The ability to communicate effectively with others is also important. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, or FERC, is an independent agency that regulates the interstate transmission of natural gas, oil, and electricity. Major Duties for the position include:

  • Assists in performing analyses of underground storage information and semi-annual storage reports filed by jurisdictional pipeline companies.
  • Assists senior staff in performing modeling of underground storage of natural gas as well as portions of, or entire, pipeline transportation systems.
  • Performs support duties such as abstracting cost and economic data from post certificate filings and annual reports, makes mathematical computations and develops chart and graphs, as needed.

Candidates must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 level. Specialized Experience is definedas: work or academic experience in performing geologic adequacy and suitability analyses of underground formations and storage of natural gas and oil.

Pay Range

$72,030.00 - $93,638.00
