Job Summary

What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? Salary: $46,499 (Step 01) to $60,445 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired atthe Step 01. There is one vacancy; however, this announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies if they become available.

Major Duties

As a Geologist within the Earthquake Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

-Creates and maintains geospatial databases.

-Performs GIS tasks related to earth science information.

-Processes lidar data for creation of derivative data visualizations.

-Utilizes repeat lidar data to analyze landscape change.

-Assists in acquisition of geological, geospatial and geophysical data.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The work is performed in both an office environment and in the field. Field activities involve outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions and include long hours. The fieldwork can involve considerable walking in rugged terrain or congested urban environments. The work may require considerable bending and carrying moderately heavy material and equipment over difficult terrain.

One year of appropriate professional experience that is in or related to the duties of this position is qualifying if it is equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Examples of GS-5 level experience could include taking measurements and collecting information; learning to take proper samples; conducting routine calculating, plotting, and checking of numerical data; preparing graphs and data profiles; and accomplishing routine analyses. This work experience would have involved receiving clear, specific, and detailed instructions as to the methods, procedures, and guidelines to use.You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.

Pay Range

$46,499.00 - $60,445.00
