Major Duties
As a Geologist within the Pacific Coastal & Marine Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
-Construct, test and implement numerical models and algorithms (e.g., Delft3D, Deflt3D-FM, SWAN, XBeach, Stockton, TAW) in support of the Coastal Climate Impacts, Coastal Storm Modeling System (CoSMoS) and Coastal Habitats in Puget Sound Projects via a series of Matlab codes, ensuring model stability, managing large volumes of data, and evaluating data and model quality.
-Design and develop computationally efficient modeling approaches and communication with online servers for real-time and offline applications. Build unstructured and curvilinear grids for complicated coastal settings, including protected coastal embayments and high-energy open coast settings.
-Perform model-model and model-measurement comparisons and error analyses, overall data analysis and interpretation, and dissemination of results.
-Prepare written reports or parts of reports describing data collection analysis techniques and interpretation. Present project results at meetings and conferences with assistance from supervisor.
-Collect and process high resolution beach and coastal bluff topographic data and nearshore bathymetry using Differential and Real-Time Kinematic GPS and a variety of surveying methods (walking, and ground and aerial structure-from-motion photogrammetry).
-Collect and maintain remote camera systems (ARGUS) to gather time-series imagery data of coastal processes; analyze remote camera data to characterize coastal processes (wave runup, beach change).
