Job Summary

This position is located at the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Soil Drainage Research Unit / Columbus, OH. The incumbent is responsible for applying hydrological processes, methods, procedures and management practices necessary to perform a full range of complex duties related to the area of assignment. This is a term, time-limited appointment with an initial duration no less than 13 months and can be extended up to a total of 4 years.

Major Duties

  • Assembles, tabulates and conducts analyses of collected data, with responsibility for recognizing and correcting errors, inconsistencies and other deficiencies in the data.
  • Apply hydrologic principles and policies and programs to layout, schedule, organize, and execute the details of a wide variety of limited operational projects.
  • Plans, assembles, installs and calibrates complex/specialized instrumentation for collecting/analyzing research data.
  • Performs field and/or laboratory maintenance on instrumentation to insure proper operation throughout the test period.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. Specialized Experience At The GS-07: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assisting with collecting hydrologic field measurements (i.e. stage, level, discharge); utilizing weirs, flumes, or velocity sensors to collect hydrology data; operating automated hydrology or water quality sampling equipment such as automated samplers; and assisting with analyzing hydrology or water quality samples using specialized software (i.e. FLOWLINK or AQUARIUS). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education or a Master's degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include agricultural engineering, environmental science, or natural resources. OR A combination of graduate education and experience as described above. At The GS-08: Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience collecting hydrologic field measurements (i.e. stage, level, discharge); installing and utilizing weirs, flumes, or velocity sensors to collect hydrology data; programming or operating automated hydrology or water quality sampling equipment such as automated samplers; and analyzing or correcting hydrology or water quality data using specialized software (i.e. FLOWLINK or AQUARIUS). OR Education: Two full years of graduate level education or a Master's degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include agricultural engineering, environmental science, or natural resources. OR A combination of graduate education and experience as described above. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range

$44,769.00 - $64,454.00
