Job Summary

This position is located in the Northern Region, Idaho Panhandle National Forests, St. Joe Ranger District. This position serves as a technical assistant in the performance of a variety of hydrology tasks, either as a crew member or individual worker. Major Duties

  • Duties listed are at the full performance level of the position.
  • Serves as a senior hydrologic technician performing semi-professional work in support of professional engineers and hydrologists.
  • Field work includes the installing, testing and maintaining of hydrologic and water quality instruments measuring precipitation, streamflow, stage, dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity, turbidity, suspended solids, etc.
  • Clearly communicate, manage complex projects, and collaboratively participate as a team member.
  • Collects and notates all data records relative to corrections that need to be made when the data is processed. Performs a variety of computations and analysis of water resource data.
  • Watershed restoration project development, grant writing support, project design, project management, and monitoring.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-07: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as the following: Performed hydrologic technician work such as preparing, analyzing, charting, annotating forms, and completing hydrographs; assisted in the performance of hydrology tasks such as conducting, monitoring, coordinating, and controlling various phases of data collection and analysis projects or operations; and/or used topographic maps and construction plans to determine watershed drainage boundaries, flow paths, elevation area relationships, stream channel cross-sections, and basin hydrologic parameters. For the GS-08: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as the following: Prepared reports, diagrams, charts, and graphs in support of technical work in hydrology; and installed, inspected, serviced, maintained, and operated hydrological instruments, devices, and equipment in the field, laboratory, or office. For the GS-09: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as the following: Performed hydrologic technician work in support of professionals engaged in scientific studies of surface water, meteorology, sediment and debris production, and water quality for water resource and land management planning and design; assisted with planning for modification of existing data collection stations or installation of new stations to augment or improve existing instrumentation; prepared correspondence relating to the request for or transmittal of hydrologic data, or any other matter relating to instrumentation programs; and/or compiled and analyzed hydrologic data for use in studies or reports. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Pay Range

$43,251.00 - $68,777.00
