Job Summary

This position is that of a Specialist Geophysicist, Oceanographer, or Mathematician in the Seafloor Interactions Branch, Acoustic Modeling and Databases Division, Acoustics Department, Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) in Stennis Space Center, MS.

Major Duties

  • You will serve as principal scientist for development, implementation, and maintenance of littoral and blue water gridded geophysical and acoustic databases.
  • You will serve as principal scientist for acoustic performance predictions and analyses, and forensic acoustic reconstructions.
  • You will serve as principal scientist for planning geophysical and acoustic surveys in data-deficient geographic regions.
  • You will be responsible for critically analyzing data and preparing databases and products.
  • You will lead small teams of scientists in accomplishment of assigned tasking.
  • You will maintain, enhance, and validate software utilized for database development, acoustic modeling, reconstructions, and analysis.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: - Collecting and analyzing geophysical and acoustic data including transmission loss.

- Developing gridded geophysical and acoustic databases.

- Utilizing underwater acoustic models and environmental databases to predict transmission loss and acoustic performance.

- Maintaining, enhancing, and validating software using computer programming.

Pay Range

$91,231.00 - $118,603.00
