Job Summary

You will serve as a Physical Scientist/ Oceanogapher in the Hydrographic Branch (NP431), Navigation Support Division (NP43), Hydrographic Department (NP4). of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Major Duties

  • You will serve as a leader in the hydrographic sciences, engaged in the establishment of procedures and methodology for collecting, processing, evaluating, and compiling hydrographic and bathymetric data.
  • You will collect process, evaluate, and incorporate hydrographic, bathymetric, and geodetic data into nautical charting products.
  • You will evaluate existing procedures and software packages used to collect, process, evaluate, and incorporate hydrographic, bathymetric, geodetic, and geospatial data into nautical charting products.
  • You will lead and mentor a team of junior scientists within the branch to ensure their technical and professional development.
  • You will extract bathymetric data from various databases toward the production digital data-sets.
  • You will collaborate with other technical experts to refine department-wide processes.
  • You will test and evaluate new techniques and software packages to improve product quality and overarching quality control procedures.
  • You will use established and novel quality assurance procedures to assess product quality.
  • You will evaluate potential software packages for incorporation into the production flow

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying the theories, principle, and techniques of science fields such as cartography, physics, geology, geodesy, bathymetry, oceanography, and hydrography. Experience using NAVOCEANO survey operations as well as the methods and techniques used to collect and process hydrographic and bathymetric data. Pay Range

$76,721.00 - $99,741.00
