Job Summary
This position is in the Programs and Project Management Division, Project Management A Branch of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Rock Island District.
Major Duties
- Manage, control, coordinate, and execute assigned programs and projects from preliminary assessments through construction and initial operations.
- Coordinate the planning, design, cost engineering, construction, and environmental considerations for civil works projects.
- Integrate customer requirements into a comprehensive project management plan that is fully coordinated with all contributing agencies and organizations.
- Serve as the District's primary point of contact for customer and other external agencies on assigned projects.

Geologist, 1350 In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: To qualify for the GS-11:Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes for civil works projects: assisting in preparing project management plans, monitoring schedules and budgets, and documenting project plans and/or execution. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Geography, Acheology, Biology, Architecture, Engineering, Geology, or a closely related field.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirements: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). To qualify for the GS-12:Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes for civil works projects: developing project management plans; managing and/or controlling schedules; managing budget and/or allocating funds; negotiating agreements with federal, state, or local entities; AND responsible for the overall quality of the project assuring technical quality meets expectations of the customer. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. At the GS-12 grade level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
