Job Summary
The Regional Landscape Architect / Recreation Planner resides at the Regional Office in Juneau, Alaska, and provides expert technical guidance and assistance to Regional, Forest, and District levels regarding landscape architecture, recreation planning, scenery management, operation/maintenance of developed sites, recreation capital investment program, and information management and reporting systems. Major Duties
- Provide oversight and/or coordination for recreation and planning program training to accomplish recreation management activities/goals.
- Inspect resource contracts and agreements for in inclusion of pertinent recreation, landscape, design and other required information.
- Resolve controversial issues that affect Recreation, Facilities, and Trail program areas.
- Communicate effectively with federal, state, local governments, private industry, academia, congressional officials and/or media.
- Provide technical advice on various recreation, landscape, facilities, and trails design and management issues to leadership and other applicable staff.
- Provide predictions on the accomplishment of established goals for recreation, facilities, and trails management activities.
- Recommend corrective courses of action on inspections of recreation management and planning programs as needed.
- Analyze priorities based on goals and objectives.
- Develop program recommendations and/or modifications for soundness, conformance and/or integration with other resource activities.
- Review detailed environmental analysis reports for Design Narratives, Travel Management, Forest Plans, and other recreation plans as needed.

GS-0101:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR Combination of education and experience -- that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field; OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. Degree or Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR Combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major described above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Degree in landscape architecture or landscape design; OR Combination of education and experience -- for each year short of graduation, the applicant must have had 1 year of experience under professional leadership and guidance of such character and diversity as to be a satisfactory substitute for the required education. This experience must have included original landscape design. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience in the amounts listed below. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-12: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: Provided technical advice and support on various landscape architecture and recreation management issues; developed and/or evaluated program recommendations and modifications submitted for soundness, conformance and integration with other resource activities; provided coordination for recreation program training to accomplish established goals for recreation management activities. For the GS-13: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: Provided expert technical advice, support and guidance on various landscape architecture and recreation management issues; developed and/or evaluated program recommendations and modifications submitted for soundness, conformance and integration with other resource activities; provided oversight and coordination for recreation program training to accomplish established goals for recreation management activities. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. Pay Range
$85,799.00 - $132,637.00
