Major Duties
The Statistician/Biostatistician for the Division of Resource Services is a consultant and technical advisor to senior subject matter specialists and high level bureau official. You will perform the following duties:
- Ensure that statistical analysis and data collection regarding inventory, assessment, and monitoring is coordinated across geographic areas and administrative boundaries.
- Lead the development of multi-scale statistical analyses, statistically valid sample designs, and decision-support tools.
- Generate ideas for analysis of data, recognize and test relationships, evaluate changes over time, perform causal analysis, and present interpretations and implications resulting from the analyses.
- Provide expert technical advice and direction regarding the collection of inventory, assessment, and monitoring data for major projects and/or studies.
- Develop new methods and tools to improve the collection of data needed to monitor and study ecological change. Manage existing databases.
- Use qualitative and quantitative methods of statistical analysis (e.g. regression analysis, correlation, analysis of variance) to produce scientifically defensible reports, plans, and presentations.
- Monitor, assess, test, and evaluate the statistical, analytical, and storage capabilities of various applications, data systems, and related tools of national scope and complexity. Develop, design, and plan new technologies, such as scripts, computer simulations, or web-based tools.
Qualifications

In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Coordinating multi-scale data collection and reporting at the State or Regional level, designing and carrying out statistical surveys for riparian/wetland,aquatic, or terrestrial vegetativeresources. Designing and managing statistically valid survey designs for riparian/wetland,aquatic, or terrestrial vegetativeresources with minimal oversight from a supervisor. Using statistical packages like R or SPSS to create monitoring designs and analyze data, including customization of scripts. Provide review or guidance of monitoring programs at the state or regional level.Coordinate with federal and other entities for resources management.

If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.

Pay Range
$96,856.00 - $125,910.00
