Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to implement new methods, policies, or procedures to resolve persistent, widespread, or critical laboratory training and quality management challenges; to implement, communicate, and maintain all laboratory quality measures.

Major Duties

As a Laboratory Quality Management Specialist you will:

  • Review and analyze public health laboratory training needs to formulate recommendations for the development of laboratory quality and safety training programs and practices.
  • Conduct evaluation of informational and instructional products, analyze and interpret results, and recommend minor and major changes to laboratory training curricula.
  • Develop, implement and manage training programs in quality and biosafety systems, laboratory biosecurity, and regulatory compliance.
  • Define or develop studies of processes and/or systems for targeted areas, including protocols; equipment; materials/equipment handling; storage and transport; and, technologies related to quality standards.
  • Recommend program modifications or revisions to continually improve processes and procedures.
  • Propose/draft new and revised laboratory quality management practices/procedures, as appropriate.
  • Conduct periodic internal and external quality audits to include assessment of laboratory data; documenting regulatory compliance and identifying/reporting deficiencies.
  • Advise management regarding nonconformities; recommend appropriate investigative, remedial and corrective action.
  • Make recommendations based on analyses of events or trends related to quality management and compliance in clinical laboratory settings.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience planning, developing and providing training to implement, maintain, and continuously improve laboratory quality management systems (LQMS) to include regulatory compliance; conducting studies and investigations to analyze and resolve critical problems in the areas of LQMS effectiveness and compliance.

Pay Range

$96,117.00 - $124,955.00
