Job Summary

This position is located position is located in Zigzag, Oregon on the Mount Hood National Forest. This position is responsible for leading an interdisciplinary team and is responsible for planning, administration and management of complex special uses, including ski area mountain resorts on National Forest System lands, including four-season activities. Major Duties

  • Supervise and manage the development, protection, and conservation of natural resources; administration/management of natural resources; and environmental planning of ski areas, winter sports resorts, four-season resorts and mountain resorts.
  • Make recommendations involving matters such as what programs or major projects should be initiated, accelerated, or curtailed; extent of resources to devote to projects considering time, resources and budget; and changes in relation to programs.
  • Direct long-range planning in connection with prospective changes in functions and programs.
  • Critique short-range plans and project work plans developed by districts.
  • Direct activities to ensure Forest Plan requirements and goals are accomplished.
  • Maintain awareness of new technological developments in forestry and natural resource management.
  • Recognize, organize and direct training in new or improved management and related practices and techniques.
  • Study and synthesize current research and reports related to natural resource management planning activities.
  • Represent the Forest as directed and maintains liaison with other federal, state, and county officials, research and resource organizations, industrial and community leaders.
  • Direct the development and establishment of plans based on objectives derived from natural resource management planning with full consideration of cost-benefit analysis.

GS-0101: Social Scientist: Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR Combination of education and experience -- that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. GS-0401: Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences:

Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major field of study that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Related course work generally refers to courses that may be accepted as part of the program major.

OR

Combination of education and experience that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, AND experience sufficient to demonstrate that I possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation that is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field needed to perform the work of the occupation. GS-0807; Landscape Architect: Degree in landscape architecture or landscape design;

OR Combination of education and experience -- for each year short of graduation, the applicant must have had 1 year of experience under professional leadership and guidance of such character and diversity as to be a satisfactory substitute for the required education. This experience must have included original landscape design. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below. Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-12 position: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as some of the following: Provided expertise and advice in the administration of a recreation program and projects; Oversee the development of the unit program of work for all aspects or portions of the recreation program; Advised, coordinated, and/or reviewed annual operating plans and budgets; Provided expertise and advice in assessing current recreation use, type, and standards, and in long-range planning, maintenance, and operation of recreation facilities; Reviewed new recreation projects or proposed revisions of existing plans and coordinated action on approved projects.; Participated in reviews and conducted reports and evaluations to prepare environmental impact statements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Pay Range

$81,875.00 - $106,442.00
