Job Summary

This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants. Applications will NOT be accepted through this flyer. Vacancies will be filled using the Dept of Defense Certain Competitive Service Direct Hiring Authority as outlined in NDAA FY19 Section 1101.

Major Duties

  • Conduct difficult survey projects.
  • Lead survey teams in remote areas.
  • Apply state of the art surveying techniques, including Global Position System (GPS) technology.
  • Serve as expert on GPS surveys and survey techniques in developing control networks.
  • Complete survey assignments within budget and according to project schedule.

Qualifications

US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe experience at second lower grade/level position in the federal service, GS-09, which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience at GS-09 level is defined as: Applying land surveying knowledge, concepts, principles and techniques to conduct land survey projects; apply extensive knowledge of land ownership laws to resolve conflicts; utilizing state of the art surveying techniques and Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to remain current and conduct surveys of the highest accuracy. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR LAND SURVEYOR:

Bachelors degree (or higher degree) in land surveying; or civil engineering with a surveying option/emphasis. My civil engineering major included at least 6 semester hours of surveying, 3 semester hours of land law, and 21 additional semester hours in any combination of the following: surveying, photogrammetry, geodetic surveying, geodesy, route surveying, remote sensing, cartography, survey astronomy, land information systems, computer-aided mapping, aerial photo interpretation, and survey analysis and adjustments. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)ORCombination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major in land surveying or civil engineering, as described in paragraph A, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Current registration as a land surveyor in a State, territory, or the District of Columbia obtained by written examination under conditions outlined in the National Council of Engineering Examiners (NCEE) Unified Model Law for Registration of Surveyors. (Note: You must attach a copy of your registration obtained based on successful completion of the written examinations.) In addition to meeting educational minimum qualification requirements stated above, applicants must also meet qualifying education and/or specialized experience to meet requirements for GS-11 position: 1. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes: Applying land surveying knowledge, concepts, principles and techniques to conduct land survey projects; apply extensive knowledge of land ownership laws to resolve conflicts; utilizing state of the art surveying techniques and Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to remain current and conduct surveys of the highest accuracy. OR 2. I have a Ph.D. (or equivalent doctoral degree), 3 years (54 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. (Note: You must attach your transcripts with your application package.) OR 3. Specialized experience (at GS-09 level) described above, but less than 1 year; and I have less than 3 years (54 semester hours) of graduate education as described in B. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet and the total is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond 2 years (36 semester hours) by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond 2 years (36 semester hours) by 18. Add the 2 percentages. Note: For the purpose of qualifications, 1 year of graduate education is equivalent to 18 semester hours. $64,009.00 - $83,210.00
