MajorDuties
- Serves as the Cadastral Survey Riparian Specialist for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in AK. Assist the Chief Cadastral Surveyor in formulation, recommending, and implementing policies and procedures on riparian issues for BLM in AK.
- Plans, directs, documents, and guides highly complex surveys and land boundary investigations, and riparian boundary determinations.
- Researches BLM and other lands records to determine if islands emerged from the beds of navigable waters. Handles protest and appeals regarding riparian issues.
- Serves as the avulsion expert associated with earthquakes and earth movements in regard to land boundaries.
- Performs official research, documentation, collection, and interpretation of administrative and historical records.
Qualifications

To be creditable, this experience must have been for 1 year and equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. (If the position was seasonal, your resume must show periods worked. To be qualified for the 1373 Series, you must: A) Have a Bachelor's Degree in land surveying; or civil engineering with a surveying option/emphasis. The civil engineering major must have included at least 6 semester hours of surveying, 3 semester hours of land law, and 21 additional semester hours in any combination of the following: surveying, photogrammetry, geodetic surveying, geodesy, route surveying, remote sensing, cartography, survey astronomy, land information systems, computer-aided mapping, aerial photo interpretation, and survey analysis and adjustments; OR B) Have an equivalent combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major in land surveying or civil engineering as described in paragraph A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education; OR C) Have a current registration as a Land Surveyor in a State, territory, or the District of Columbia obtained by written examination. Such registration must have been obtained under conditions outlined in the National Council of Engineering Examiners (NCEE) Unified Model Law of Registration of Surveyors. Applicants wishing to be considered under this provision must show evidence of registration based on successful completion of the written examinations. Registrations granted prior to adoption of a registration law with qualification requirements equivalent to the NCEE Model Law by the State, territory, or District of Columbia are not acceptable under this option. To be considered equivalent to the NCEE Unified Model Law, registration laws must include the four options listed within the NCEE Unified Model Law in the section specifying "General Requirements for Registration" as a Professional Land Surveyor. To be qualified as a GS-13, you must: Have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: solving in depth riparian problems, managing multiple teams responsible for project planning, field execution, and records preparation; survey policy development and implementation; survey program development and analysis, and evaluating survey program effectiveness.
Pay Range
$98,842.00 - $128,492.00
