Job Summary

This position is in Region 5. If selected, you must work at the location stated in this announcement. About Region 5: Region 5 Salary will be based on the grade level for which you are selected. One or more positions may be filled.

Major Duties

At the entry level of this position, you will:

- Perform duties related to environmental engineering, physical science, or life science to support environmental protection work in a program area (air, water, waste, etc); a functional area (enforcement, compliance, permitting, etc); or a cross media effort (environmental justice, etc).

- Determine the adequacy and accuracy of data and processes, proper preservation and collection of samples and specimens and provide technical assistance where applicable.

- Provide assistance to other engineers and scientists within the immediate organization by researching technical aspects of environmental laws and regulations.

- Analyze data and prepare reports regarding state, local or tribal implementation of environmental protection programs.

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.

Qualifications

In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:To qualify for the GS-07 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-05 level defined as providing general guidance and advice on environmental issues, and/or assisting in the review of scientific/technical documents; and/or collecting technical/scientific data OR 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement (Superior Academic Achievement Definition) degree in the academic discipline as described below OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-07 level defined asproviding policy and procedural guidance on environmental issues, and/or assisting in the production and review of scientific/technical documents, and/or verifying and presenting findings on technical/scientific data collected OR master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:

1.Knowledge of applying professional engineering, physical or biological science theories, principles, and methods.

2.Ability to communicate orally to make presentations to various types of audiences.

3. Skill in applying professional engineering, physical or biological science theories, principles, and methods.

4.Ability to communicate in writing to write technical reports and letters.

5.Knowledge of applicable environmental laws, regulations, statutes, policies and guidelines.

6.Ability to work as a team member, coordinate with peers and superiors, and collaborate on projects.

7.Skill in using standard data gathering and analysis techniques to collect and review technical information.

8. Ability to plan work and meet deadlines.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Pay Range

$47,965.00 - $76,274.00
