Job Summary

This position isin Region 2,Superfund and Emergency Management Division, Response and Prevention Branch, Response Section, inEdison, NJ. If selected, you must work at the location stated in this announcement.About Region 2: R2.

Major Duties

At the entry level of this position, you will:

- Respond on an emergency basis to the release of oil or other hazardous materials;

- Serve as a warranted Contracting Officer;

- Conduct official investigations and inspections pursuant to federal laws administered by the United States Environmental Protection Agency for fund-led and enforcement-led removal responses;

- Assist senior On-Scene Coordinator (OSC) with responsibility for assessing the nature of reported environmental incidents and determine appropriate response;

- Monitor removal responses for situations that involve hazardous waste;

- Perform necessary community relations and coordination activities.

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.

Qualifications

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.

In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-07 level defined asassisting in responding to accidental or deliberate hazardous chemical or biological spills; assist in assessing an environmental incident to determine the appropriateresponse OR master's or equivalent graduate degree;OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:1) Skill in collecting and reviewing scientific and/or engineering data; 2) Ability to perform warranted Contracting Officer functions; 3) Knowledge of hazardous waste regulations; 4) Ability to perform developmental assignments related to environmental hazards resulting from releases of biological, chemical and radiological agents; 5) Ability to monitor removal responses that involve hazardous waste; and 6) Skill in oral communication.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Pay Range

$59,173.00 - $76,921.00
