Job Summary

Major Duties

At the entry level of this position, you will:

Evaluate human health and environmental problems related to air pollution, with a focus on utilizing risk assessment, toxicology, and epidemiology to evaluate chemical risks.

Implement strategies designed to increase public health and/or reduce pollution, through voluntary programs, education, coordination with federal regulatory and enforcement authorities, and other approaches as appropriate, focusing on explaining air pollution risks and hazards to stakeholders.

Oversee and coordinate with State air programs, focusing on providing technical support to risk assessment efforts.

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.

Qualifications

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:To qualify for the GS-11 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-09 level defined as providing scientific analysis of the health risks of pollution and/or communicating to the public about health risks of pollution.- OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below.To qualify for the GS-12 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-11 level defined as providing scientific analysis of the health risks of pollution and/or communication to the public about health risk of pollution.Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of a wide range of program principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques.

Ability to serve as a consultant to solve problems involving diverse aspects of environmental protection.

Skill in developing and maintaining effective relationships to enhance program goals to audiences with opposing points of view.

Skill in analyzing the overall effectiveness of program activities.

Skill in evaluating the impact and effectiveness of projects.

Knowledge of relevant environmental protection statutes, regulations, and precedent decisions. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Pay Range

$68,897.00 - $107,357.00
