Job Summary

THIS IS A DUAL STATUS TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION **INDEFINITE-MAY LEAD TO PERMANENT** This position is located at 113th Operations Group, Weather Flight, located on Joint Base Andrews, MD. he primary purpose of the position is to serve as the full-time unit administrator, ensuring continuity of operations for the weather flight by administering the day-to-day operations.

Major Duties

As a METEOROLOGICAL TECHNICIAN (TITLE 32),GS 1341 8, you will perform but are not limited to:
Provides meteorological services for evaluation and implementation in overall customer mission objectives. Uses a thorough knowledge of USAF, USA, and/or ANG organization, weather regulations, policies, requirements, and standards, to independently provide weather support to customers as required. This support includes such tasks as analyzing climatology and solar/lunar data to provide short and long-range weather forecasts to customers. Conducts various weather briefings as necessary. Participates in customer-course-of-action and war-gaming sessions. Works to minimize weather team limitations and maximize meteorological support capability to customers. Plans, tailors, and recommends upgrades to weather support architecture to suit mission requirements. Ensures weather team operating procedures support customer requirements and comply with higher echelon directives. Interacts with higher echelon weather support teams arranging product flow and defines weather team requirements.Independently accomplishes the day-to-day operations of the Weather Flight. Carries out unit level Air Force Weather directed programs and activities; conducts technical studies; and reviews and coordinates projects and activities on behalf of the weather flight. Verifies, and evaluates effectiveness and status of all weather flight functions and programs. Develops, coordinates, and administers federal and state weather flight programs for readiness, mobilization, training, contingency, and peacetime operations. Independently addresses and resolves short-notice unit issues. Drafts and staffs memorandums of understanding and support agreements for command coordination. In coordination with the unit commander, develops and disseminates the unit Status of Resources and Training System (SORTS) report and Aerospace Reporting Tool (ART) reports. Ensures compliance with command directives and policies. Regularly contacts functional managers within the US Air Force (USAF), US Army (USA), and reserve components for the purpose of gathering information, providing technical weather support, coordinating events, exercises, and deployments.

Qualifications

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the DC Air National Guard.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: You must meet the minimum military rank as specified in this announcement. Maximum Military Rank: E-5/SSgt

Compatible Military Assignments: 1W0X1 Other requirements: For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within One (1) year of appointment.

Minimum Requirements: Experience, education, or training involving performing meteorological watch; and communicating effectively orally and in writing. Experience using computer and automation systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least Eighteen (18) months experience, education, or training which provided a familiarity with weather regulation, policies, requirements, and standards. Experience developing and operating systems involved with data collection, verification, information dissemination, observation, and forecasting services and systems.

Pay Range

$53,901.00 - $70,072.00
