The primary purpose of this position is to provide meteorological services, which are vital to the support of operational weather and resource protection. Assists management in developing and administering an on­ the-job training program which provides qualified personnel to sustain global and regional meteorological support for Air Force, (DoD). & other agencies.

Major Duties

  • Provides support to management in administering upgrade, qualification, and certification training activities.
  • Prepares and maintains materials designed to meet specific training requirements.
  • Conducts training classes using a wide range of teaching methods and/or tools.
  • Provides the full range of complex operational weather support to customers.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:Click here for IOR's SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes Measuring meteorological phenomena with scientific equipment and instrumentation. Observing and recording atmospheric characteristics, i.e., temperature, air movement, visibility, pressure, air density, cloud types.Decoding, plotting, and systematically recording data related to the physical characteristics of the atmosphere, i.e., charts, diagrams, cross sections. Collecting, analyzing, interpreting, adjusting, and verifying atmospheric and other meteorological data to confirm and improve accuracy and efficacy. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-10 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of meteorological principles, procedures, requirements, and work techniques of the full range of advanced operations, instrumentation, and practices in the areas of weather observing, forecasting, communications, meteorological equipment, and support procedures.

2. Practical knowledge of training concepts, practices, techniques, materials development, test and measurement, and training resources for technical courses.

3. Ability to measure meteorological phenomena with scientific equipment and instrumentation, and collect, analyze, interpret, adjust, and verify atmospheric or other meteorological data to confirm and improve its accuracy and effectiveness.

4. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to prepare and present briefings, guidance products, and to oversee program activities.

5. Ability to make timely decisions and select a course of action under high stress conditions associated with severe weather and emergency situations. 6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships using tact and diplomacy in interacting with individuals, supervisors, and leadership. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range

$58,260.00 - $75,740.00
