Air Reserve Technicians are full-time civilian employees who are also members of the Air Force Reserve unit in which they are employed. In addition to their civilian assignments, they are assigned to equivalent positions in the Reserve organization with a Reserve military rank or grade. Appointee's civilian assignments will consist of the following duties.

Major Duties

  • Accomplishes mission planning, coordination and provides technical guidance in regards to a variety of seasonal storm or other missions assigned to the unit through requests received from a variety of governmental agencies.
  • Provides staff with direction and advice regarding policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Performs project responsibility for one or more of the aforementioned missions on a continuing basis.
  • Performs work by serving as aircrew meteorologist/mission director, and, as such is responsible for successful completion of the meteorological aspects of the mission and briefs other crew members.
  • Performs work by observing, computing, and recording meteorological parameters and conditions while in flight such as absolute altitude; flight-level windspeed and directions; ambient temperature, est.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-11) or equivalent. Specialized experience includes performing mission planning, advice policy and procedures; analyzing atmospheric and weather data, determining crew requirements; assisting aircrew in flight planning; and providing on-the-scene airborne meteorological expertise and weather situation analysis for various weather warning centers. (To be creditable, specialized perceived must meet the above quality level requirements.) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. A postgraduate degree in meteorology or atmospheric sciences or an equivalent experience level in applied meteorology is preferred.

2. Professional knowledge of scientific processes in evaluating environmental sensitivities.

3. Expert knowledge of scientific and engineering principles and application of corporate strategic planning process.

4. Knowledge of DOD regulations, Air Force and MAJCOM Instructions and procedures related to planning, programming, and budget programs.

5. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, and with technical authority.

6. Knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, organizational structures, and operation of DOD and Air Force organizations to provide command level staff guidance to the various command entities involved in air planning and execution of military operations. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range

$74,596.00 - $96,978.00
