Job Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority in accordance with major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in Department of Defense, Direct-Hire Authority (Domestic DIB, MRTFB), Sec 1125(a) and (c), PL 114-328, 12/23/2016. Position is located with the US Army Test and Evaluation Command, Electronic Proving Ground, Staff Support Directorate Operations Division Spectrum/Frequency Management Team, Fort Huachuca, AZ.

Major Duties

  • Performs a variety of Meteorological tasks related to technical and operational support to Electronic Proving Ground (EPG) Meteorological team.
  • Applies meteorological science to all phases of outdoor testing of materials and systems at the EPG and remote locations.
  • Responsibilities include the following, ensuring that ongoing team support meets customer needs with technical integrity substantially modifying, innovating, and/or combining forecast.
  • Utilizes extensive experience in atmospheric effects on military hardware as the team expert in this area.
  • Applies a professional knowledge of meteorological methods, techniques, theory, and skills to accomplish the above technical tasks.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and the specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Meteorologist: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in meteorology, atmospheric science, or other natural science major that included: 1. At least 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of credit in meteorology/atmospheric science including a minimum of: a. Six semester hours of atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics;* b. Six semester hours of analysis and prediction of weather systems (synoptic/mesoscale); c. Three semester hours of physical meteorology; and d. Two semester hours of remote sensing of the atmosphere and/or instrumentation. 2. Six semester hours of physics, with at least one course that includes laboratory sessions.* 3. Three semester hours of ordinary differential equations.* 4. At least nine semester hours of course work appropriate for a physical science major in any combination of three or more of the following: physical hydrology, statistics, chemistry, physical oceanography, physical climatology, radiative transfer, aeronomy, advanced thermodynamics, advanced electricity and magnetism, light and optics, and computer science. * There is a prerequisite or corequisite of calculus for course work in atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics, physics, and differential equations. Calculus courses must be appropriate for a physical science major. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes applying meteorological and climate science to various types of outdoor testing in relation to customer needs regarding project planning and scheduling. Experience at resolving complex and difficult meteorological and climate science problems and issues. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
