Major Duties
Plans, organizes, participates in and oversees natural resource data collection and monitoring of natural resources and conditions to evaluate legacy data for relevancy, organize field data collection for efficiency, and ensures relevant data collection and quality control during field cycle. Implements project goals and objectives, develops monitoring schedules, provides project leadership and analyzes and summarizes collected data.
Coordinates with program specialists to analyze collected data and makes preliminary recommendations regarding allotments and/or natural resource conditions on an annual basis for consistency and comparability over time. Works with specialists of various natural resource disciplines in the preparation and implementation of field projects or studies.
Physical Demands: Office work is performed in adequately lighted, heated, and air-conditioned office, requiring careful concentration for accurate data analysis and computer input. Field work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of walking, standing, crouching, or riding in or driving vehicles over rough, uneven, or rocky terrain. The work requires the ability to travel into the backcountry or front country on foot or by stock under a wide variety of climatic conditions and elevations. Required to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment: Work is performed both in the office and at extended field camp (sites) under a variety of topographic and weather conditions. In the field there is exposure to extreme heat and cold, rough terrain, insects, snakes, and other hazards are common. Field work involves extended traveling by truck, and extensive walking over very rough, rocky, and wet terrain, while carrying equipment and tools. It may also include some traveling by light fixed wing aircraft or helicopter, or riding stock to remote sites. The incumbent will carefully adhere to all safety procedure to mitigate hazards encountered.
Qualifications

To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.
This position has a Basic Education Requirement.Must have a Degree inbiological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the positionOR a Combination of education and experience - have completed courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
For GS-09: Meet the Basic EducationalRequirement AND have one year of specialized equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07). Specialized experience is further described as: Experience in developing natural resources management plans including vegetative monitoring schedules and studies, allotment evaluations and inspections, environmental assessments, and working and coordinating with partners and the public; OR Meet the Basic Educational Requirement AND completed2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in biological sciences or a directly related field; OR Meet the Basic Educational Requirement AND have a combination of experience and second year graduate level education described above.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range
$57,659.00 - $74,958.00
