Job Summary

Serves as the primary Recreation Business Line Program Manager at the District level with overall responsibility for planning, budgeting, coordinating and monitoring District activities concerned with project recreation operations and management at five field projects in a three state area with over 2.5 million annual visitors.

Major Duties

  • Serve as the Recreation Program Manager for Seattle District in the functional areas of visitor assistance, partnerships, interpretive and outreach programs, budget management, and related program and policy issues.
  • Serves as the Recreation Business line Manger.
  • Develops and implements short (one year or less) and long range (more than one year) operational plans to achieve recreation management program requirements, goals and objectives.
  • Coordinates with field, District, Division, and National staff on budget development and execution.
  • Coordinates District participation in special events and public information activities such as local shows and fairs, periodically attends special events at field office location fairs, and administers the visitor satisfaction feedback.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Education Requirement for Natural Resource Specialist, GS-0401: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: To qualify at the GS-11 level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing technical support to programs in park and recreation management such as visitor assistance, interpretive, partnerships, volunteer programs, campground management, visitor centers and public outreach programs.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. To qualify at the GS-12 level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing, implementing, and administering park and recreation programs in four or more of the following areas: visitor assistance, interpretation, partnerships, volunteers, campground management, visitor center management, and/or public outreach. Experience must include program planning, budgeting, and public liaison with interested parties. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, at the GS-12 level you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Pay Range

$67,816.00 - $105,672.00
