Major Duties
This position is located in the Medford District of the Bureau Of Land Management in Medford, Oregon.
The position serves as the Medford District Data Steward and Data Analyst in the Land and Resources Division. The incumbent is responsible for managing data for the forestry, silviculture and fuels program and primary databases used to capture and collect data to ensure information meets quality standards for completeness. In addition to serving as a technical resource, the position researches data for resource data and adheres to timelines provided by the Microstorms implementation guidelines. The incumbent will be responding to data queries, tables and other appropriate GIS tools to provide resource data management and analysis support. The incumbent will also verify data accuracy, maintain and coordinate data sharing and exchange agreements and serve as a technical resource on the databases.
Physical Demands
The work is primarily sedentary. The position requires that the incumbent work long periods sitting in one position and under conditions of intense concentration. Stress may be experienced in attempting to respond to conflicting objectives and in working against tight deadlines. The Data Steward will also assist in the field collection of data in which case the work will require physical exertion, hiking, driving, long work days, and infrequent nighttime work.
Work Environment
Most of the work is performed in a typical office environment. Occasional travel to other District and to the field may be required. The field work would be accomplished in steep, rugged terrain, rough forest roads, and extreme temperature and weather conditions.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications Requirement: Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position OR a combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shownabove, plus appropriate experience or additional education.In addition to meeting the basic qualification requirement above applicant must have: A) 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-7 level in the federal service OR B) 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or master’s or equivalent graduate degree.Specialized Experience Requirement:In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-7) of the position to be filled. Examples include experience in natural resources data management assessing data quality and completeness; using remote sensing data to draw foreststand boundaries anddevelop stand type description;correcting data problems for corporate databases; preparing reports, tables, summaries and maps for use in quality assessment; managing resource data in GIS database systems to ensure the information meets quality standards for completeness, system compliance and compatibility; developing new applications, using GPS and GIS systems and tools.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.You will need to clearly state your undergraduate/graduate degree(s) and submit your college transcripts or a listing of your college courses that includes hours and grades. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
Pay Range
$52,905.00 - $68,777.00
