Job Summary

The incumbent performs duties providing technical assistance directly to Tribal individuals and entities with emphasis on implementing Farm Bill Programs through best management practices on croplands, naturalized areas, range, and pasture lands uses.

Major Duties

  • Works with Tribal individuals and entities, farmers, ranchers and land owners to develop conventional conservation plans addressing resource concerns.
  • Provides information concerning Farm Bill and State Conservation Programs and develops conservation contracts according to the NRCS Conservation Program Contracting Manual. Performs on-site inventory and evaluations.
  • Provides guidance and technical assistance to Tribal members in developing, carrying out programs and implementing conservation and resource management system plans.
  • Applies applicable NRCS and Farm Bill programs to address resource concerns and explains cost share programs and payment procedures to applicants and contract holders.
  • Develop conservation plans, objectives and practice implementation.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. Time in grade: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. Basic Education Requirement:

Degree: Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position;;OR Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as stated above, plus appropriate experience or additional education In addition to meeting one of the Basic Requirements listed above, applicants must meet the following Minimum Qualifications Requirement in order to be considered: Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-11 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level or higher in Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: Provide technical guidance and assistance directly to individuals, emphasizing conservation programs on croplands, naturalized areas, range and pasturelands uses. Provide guidance on cost share programs, conservation methods and techniques to maintain or improve production while conserving soil and water resources. Develop and maintain working relationships with members of diverse groups internally and externally, including federal and state agency staff.; Assist in coordinating outreach of agency programs and services to customers. OR Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience for the GS-11 level: 3 year(s) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or Ph.D. equivalent doctoral degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of graduate-level education and experience, as described above, may be used to qualify for this position. This combination must have equipped you with the necessary knowledge and/or experience to successfully perform the duties of this position. Pay Range

$64,009.00 - $83,210.00
