Job Summary
You will serve as an OCEANOGRAPHER in the Department of Oceanography at the Naval Postgraduate School. This job opportunity announcement has a first cut-off date. Major Duties
- You will assist in the planning and execution of educational and research activities in the Oceanography Department.
- You will collect physical and acoustic oceanographic data and perform reduction, analysis and modeling of this data in support of on-going research and instructional activities.
- You will support student and faculty programming needs and lead classroom activities.
- You will manage the Oceanography Department's Moored Experiment Laboratory (MEL) with responsibility for designing, developing, and testing oceanographic systems and subsystems, including sensor selection and mechanical configuration.
- You will perform technical leadership roles in both instructional and research at-sea cruises (deck boss, watch chief and team leader) and for in-house laboratory activities.
- You will be responsible for deploying and recovering oceanographic systems and subsystems.
Qualifications
GS-09: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Planning, preparing and executing oceanographic field experiments and data collection; 2) Performing data analysis and modeling of physical oceanographic data; 3) Keeping organized records of performance, testing, calibration and maintenance of oceanographic instrumentation; and 4) Participating in instructional and research at sea cruises as a deck boss or watch stander. NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to considered for the position. GS-07: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Taking measurements and collecting information using standard oceanographic instrumentation for use in research projects; 2) Conducting routine calculating, plotting, and checking of numerical data for the completion of oceanographic graphs and data analyses; and 3) Participating in oceanographic field experiments to provide research results of phenomena such as currents, circulations, waves, beach and near-shore processes, depth, floor configuration, etc. NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to considered for the position. Pay Range
$52,759.00 - $83,897.00
