Major Duties
At the entry level of this position, you will:
- Assist in the execution and analysis of laboratory experiments for organic analysis as a member of one or more research teams within the larger framework of Office of Research and Development (ORD) research projects;
- Assist in validating, modifying, and applying methods to assess experimental endpoints;
- Provide information and advice on laboratory procedures and operations;
- Assist in implementing and adhering to Laboratory, Health and Safety and Quality Assurance and other system requirements.
When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.
Qualifications
In addition to the eligibility requirements for the Recent Graduates program, this position has specific educational/experience requirements in order to qualify as described below:
To qualify for the GS-07 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience equivalent to the GS-05 level defined collecting laboratory and/or field samples;or preparing scientific reports- OR 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement (Superior Academic Achievement Definition) degree in the academic discipline as described above.
Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Knowledge of laboratory research principles, practices and procedures for chromatographic instrumentation; 2) Ability to independently perform recurring, routine or precedented experiments using standard methods and techniques; 3) Skill in written communication to prepare routine reports and develop presentations; 4)Knowledge of developments in organic analysis of pesticides; 5) Skill in oral communication; 6)Ability to resolve conventional technical problems in laboratory experimentation; 7) Knowledge of quality assurance procedures sufficient to perform quality assurance checks and validate methods.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Pay Range
$44,944.00 - $58,423.00
