Job Summary

You will serve as a Physical Scientist in the Bathymetric Branch, Navigation Support Division, Hydrographic Department, Naval Oceanographic Office of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Major Duties

  • You will analyzes navigation or bathymetric automated system performance to determine data quality.
  • You will process hydrographic or bathymetric and navigational data using knowledge of scientific applications.
  • You will deliver instruction and training in the use of various data processing software and equipment.
  • You will supply technical guidance and training to junior employees to increase their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • You will perform data collection, processing, and formatting of data for product development and data transfer.
  • You will use the principles, theories, practices, and techniques of the physical sciences for data collection, analysis, and production of results.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience serving as a liaison and/or leding in Hydrographic Science. Experience establishing procedures and methodology for collecting, processing, evaluating, and compiling hydrographic and bathymetric data for the purpose of the dissemination of highly-specialized nautical charting products that address Safety of Navigation (SoN), Fleet Operations, and other DOD/DON requirements. Experience Traveling as a hydrographic, bathymetric lead, or Position & Water Levels Lead (PWLL) lead aboard NAVOCEANO survey vessels or as a member of a detached survey team. Experience Collecting, processing, evaluating and incorporates hydrographic, bathymetric and geodetic data into nautical charting products. Experience evaluating existing procedures and software packages used to collect, process, evaluate and incorporate hydrographic, bathymetric, geodetic, and geospatial data into nautical charting products. Experience leading and mentoring a person or team of junior scientist(s) within the branch. Experience Testing and/or evaluating new techniques and software packages to improve product lines and associated quality control procedures. Experience extracting bathymetry from various databases and produces digital datasets. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website:

Pay Range

$76,721.00 - $99,741.00
