Job Summary
Serves as a Bioengineer/Occupant Protection specialist in the Biomedical Sciences Branch of the Human Health and Performance (HH&P) Directorate responsible for providing technical, cost, schedule, and risk oversight supporting multiple NASA programs.
Major Duties
- Provides Agency-level, Health and Medical Technical Authority subject matter expertise for astronaut Occupant Protection standards and requirements.
- Leads Bioengineering/Occupant Protection research activities for the Human Research Program.
- Evaluates vehicle designs against Occupant Protection requirements, principles and best practices and provides recommendations and guidance for improving crew safety.
- Participates in the NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC) Human Factors Technical Discipline Team. Provides Occupant Protection expertise input to the NESC technical fellow and leads technical assessments as needed.
- Acts as the Human System Risk Board risk custodian for risks associated with injury due to vehicle dynamic loads.
- Supports the Biomedical Research and Environmental Sciences Division's Human Physiology, Performance, Protection and Operations Laboratory, including oversight of contractor activities and deliverables.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-12), which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.To qualify for the GS-13:One year of specialized experience is defined as applying technical knowledge of human-vehicle occupant protection issues, tools, and research findings; experience translating knowledge and research findings to inform human health risk decisions; experience in balancing multiple assignments and in establishing and maintaining priorities; experience supporting long-range program budget projections, planning, and control systems processes.
Pay Range
$104,898.00 - $136,370.00
