Job Summary

What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? The government-wide direct hire authority forScientific, Technical, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) Occupationsis being used to fill this position. Salary: $76,721 (Step 01) to $99,741 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired atthe Step 01.

Major Duties

As a Physical Scientist within the St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Plans and conducts complex studies; prepares reports, papers, briefs, presentations, and publications
  • Monitors and assesses impacts of remote sensing and spatial data technologies; identifies requirements for, analyzes and designs, documentation used in cartographic use and spatial data management
  • Formulates innovative approaches to satisfy diverse customer requirements; justifies, interprets, and negotiates cooperative programs with partners
  • Identifies standards and develops new or modified standards in order to improve digital data products
  • Designs and conducts multi-disciplinary scientific studies involving the computerized integration of complex combination of multi-layered level thematic spatial data

Physical Demands: The work is sedentary. May require some walking; standing; bending, carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts.

Work environment: Work is performed primarily in a field, laboratory, or office setting.

Operates a motor vehicle as an incidental driver.

Qualifications

For information on basic qualifications, which includes information on whether you may substitute education for specialized experience, please click on the following: https://www.usgs.gov/about/organization/science-support/human-capital/physical-scientist-gs-1301.Inaddition to the basic education requirements, you must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Examples may include planning and executing complex physical science studies, which usually involved intensive investigations into recognized phenomena. This work typically involved conventional methods and techniques though it required going beyond clear precedents, and required adapting methods to the problems at hand and interpreting findings in terms of their scientific significance. At this level, physical scientists have the ability to independently perform scientific work of considerable difficulty.You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.

Pay Range

$76,721.00 - $99,741.00
