Major Duties
The incumbent will support the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) studies of the scientific foundations of forensic practices. The incumbent coordinates literature reviews of selected forensic science research, organizes workshops on forensic science practices, participates in technical examinations of forensic science methods, and meets with forensic practitioners to gather understanding of their scientific practices.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to the above basic requirements:All applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of the specialized experience at the GS-9 level (ZP-II at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience working on research projects in the physical sciences with known or potential forensic science applications. Experience presenting findings of physical sciences research to broad audiences. Experience in validation processes in measurements, such as in pattern evidence, the physical sciences, or life sciences. Experience co-authoring scientific reports with multiple team members. OR
Master's or equivalent graduate degree

Pay Range
$69,581.00 - $108,422.00
