Job Summary

Major Duties

At the entry level of this position, you will:

Provide physical and life science and programmatic advice and assistance to state, local and/or tribal governments on matters relating to the development, execution, and monitoring of adequate environmental protection policies, plans, and programs.

Review and implement environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations.

Prepare assessments of the scientific, economic and technologic feasibility of specific public water supply supervision programs.

Provide assistance, guidance and briefings that are effective in sharing information and improving implementation of the program.


When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.

Qualifications

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in:

0401 - General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series:

A.Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR-

B.Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

1301 - General Physical Science Series:

A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. -OR-

B. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:To qualify for the GS-11 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-09 level defined ashandling water quality issues; providing guidance to federal/state/regulated community on water regulations; reviewing and implementing water standards, guidelines, policies and regulations - OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below- OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.To qualify for the GS-12 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-11 level defined as reviewing and analyzing state and/or federal water programs and recommending changes; analyzing and evaluating new or revised environmental guidelines to determine impact on water resources.Your application package will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of a wide range of general physical and life scientific principals or studies that may include diverse scientific or other environmental conditions and varying scientific and program processes.

Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, documentation and reporting requirements, and lawmaking or rule making processes to make decisions or recommendations significantly changing, interpreting, or expanding important agency/national water policies and programs.

Skill to modify standard practices, adapt precedents, and make significant departures from existing approaches and techniques as it relates to ensuring clean and safe water.

Ability to independently plan and carry out assignments, interpret policy, coordinate work with others, and provide appropriate information for management decisions.

Pay Range

$70,987.00 - $110,614.00
