Job Summary

JOB DESCRIPTION: R&D Scientists apply the scientific method in one or more disciplines (e.g., Photogrammetry, Geodesy, Computer Science, Mathematics, Image Science, Human Terrain Analysis) to advance Geospatial Science and enhance Agency tradecraft. They conduct and develop novel scientific research projects and facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration to further scientific inquiry and application. They provid

Major Duties

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: NGA seeks research scientists in the following science/research area: Foundation. Develops disruptive technologies such as small Unmanned Aerial System platforms carrying disparate payloads (e.g., frame and video cameras, LIDAR) with associated geospatial processing - to observe, extract, represent, and attribute terrain and man-made features over areas of interest. Experience applying image processing (e.g., Structure-from-Motion, Simultaneous Locating and Mapping) and LIDAR processing to high-resolution mapping is desired supported by a strong knowledge/background in remote sensing fundamentals, machine learning, mathematical/statistical modeling, scientific computer programming (e.g., Python and R with open source software), and managing research programs. This position is eligible for an INCENTIVE: The selected candidates may be offered an incentive as part of the offer of employment, based on budget availability. To receive the incentive, the selected candidate must sign a service agreement depending on the approved amount or duration of the incentive. If the employee leaves before the end of the service agreement, the employee may be required to repay a pro rata share amount of the incentive to the government.
