Job Summary

This position is located with the U.S. Army Research and Development Center (ERDC), Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory, Navigation Division, Coastal Engineering Branch. This position may be filled at the Developmental or Full Performance level.

Major Duties

  • Perform research and analysis on a variety of projects to include: coastal science, regional marine navigation systems, coastal geomorphic changes, modeling and coastal systems.
  • Develop and apply novel methods to define and quantify regional geomorphic processes.
  • Lead and/or participate in investigations into applied research topics in support of Civil Works and Military Engineering missions.
  • Interact in multi-disciplinary teams on projects and under Technical Program Management to determine existing and future potential coastal engineering and navigation research needs.
  • Document basic research, advanced model capabilities and application based studies in technical reports, notes, peer-reviewed journals, industry literature and conference proceedings.

Basic Education Requirement: For 0810 Series: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=0800/In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: For the DB-2 Level: Basic Education Requirement For the DB-4 Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting research and field investigations in any of the following areas: navigation systems both inland and coastal, civil engineering, coastal engineering, modeling and/or geomorphic assessments to support coastal and navigational research projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DB-2 (GS-11). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Engineering, Architecture, Physics, Physical, Sciences, Mathematics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DB-2 (equivalent to GS-05 to GS-11) target to the DB-04 (equivalent to GS-12 to 14) level. If selected at the DB-02 level, you have the potential to be non-competitively promoted to the DB-04 level based on successful performance in the position. In accordance with the Federal Register Vol.63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, and employee of the Laboratory Demonstration project must have a current average performance score of 2.5 or above in order to be selected for promotion. All applicants currently employed under a Laboratory Demonstration Project must include their most recent performance appraisal score as part of their electronic resume. $34,916.00 - $140,146.00
