Job Summary
This position is located with the U.S. Army Research and Development Center (ERDC), Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory, Navigation Division, Coastal Engineering Branch. This position may be filled as Developmental at the or Full Performance level.
Major Duties
- Developing and applying innovative large-scale geomorphic assessment techniques and analyses on regional and project-specific coastal systems.
- Developing and application of novel methods to define and quantify regional geomorphic processes in support of the Navigation and Flood and Coastal Business Lines within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
- Develop and apply geologic and geomorphic analyses and methodologies for reimbursable work in support of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other federal and state agencies.
- Perform technology transfer of information and developed tools to sponsors and customers at stakeholder meetings and to peers and colleagues at workshops, training courses, and national and international conferences.
- Working with staff in related technical fields to support coastal engineering and navigation studies.

For the DB-4 (GS-12/14) Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience, which includes conducting research and field investigations in any of the following areas: numerical modeling, geomorphic assessment, and/or geologic assessment to support coastal and/or navigational research projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DB-2 (GS-11). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Physical Science, Engineering, or Mathematics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DB-2 (equivalent to GS-05 to GS-11) target to the DB-04 (equivalent to GS-12 to 14) level. If selected at the DB-02 level, you have the potential to be non-competitively promoted to the DB-04 level based on successful performance in the position. In accordance with the Federal Register Vol.63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, and employee of the Laboratory Demonstration project must have a current average performance score of 2.5 or above in order to be selected for promotion. All applicants currently employed under a Laboratory Demonstration Project must include their most recent performance appraisal score as part of their electronic resume.
