Job Summary
This position is in the Southern Regional Office Planning Unit located in Atlanta, GA. The incumbent serves the Regional Assessment, Inventory, Monitoring, and Climate Change Coordinator. Major Duties

- Develops Regional direction for assessment, inventory, monitoring, and climate change processes. Drafts letters of direction, supplements to the directives system, and desk references, or other documents.
- Assures there is a consistent approach to assessment, inventory, monitoring, and climate change in the Region.
- Coordinates inter-regional, multi-forest, or forest assessment, inventory, and monitoring efforts.
- Represents Regional perspectives and policies during broad scale assessment, inventory, monitoring, and climate change efforts.
- Provides expertise nationally and to multi-regional and multi-forest efforts.
- Provides guidance to and coordinates assessment, inventory, monitoring, and climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts in the Region.
- Is responsible for the development of techniques, databases, and analytical models for use in assessment, inventory, and monitoring efforts in the Region.
- Serves as team leader for the Regional ecosystem management core team on climate change scorecard program of work.
- As leader of the team, organizes this team?s program of work and in so doing, interacts with Forest line and staff officers across the various disciplines.
- Coordinates and interacts with personnel from Forests, Districts, other RO staff groups, other Regions, the Washington Office, Research, other Federal and State agencies, other partners, such as non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the public.

0101 Series: Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. 0401 Series: Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR
Combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major described above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. 1301 Series:
Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below. Specialized Experience Requirements:
For the GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level. Examples of specialized experience are: Assisted with developing and/or implementing natural resource inventory, monitoring, assessment and/or climate change programs at the field unit level, and included providing advice on requirements from law, regulation and policy; assisted in leading major large scope projects/initiatives; assisted in managing budget, program of work, and targets at the field unit level; assisted with performing inventory, monitoring or assessment work.
OR
3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (coursework directly related to position being filled)
OR
Appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.) For the GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level. Examples of specialized experience are: Assisted, developed and/or led the implementation of a natural resource inventory, monitoring, assessment and/or climate change program at the field unit level, which included providing advice on requirements from law, regulation and policy; led major large scope projects/initiatives; managed budget, program of work, and targets at the field unit level; performed inventory, monitoring or assessment work. For the GS-13: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. Examples of specialized experience are: Created, organized and led teams of wide ranging subject matter specialists through large complex processes; analyzed a large budget and restructured that budget to increase program effectiveness; served as a recognized expert in the technical aspects of physical, social and biological sciences inventory, monitoring, assessment and/or climate change; developed tools for use in assessment, inventory and monitoring work. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
Pay Range
$67,437.00 - $124,955.00
