Job Summary
This position is located with the Agricultural Research Service, Field Organization, Midwest Area, Cropping Systems and Water Quality Research Unit in Columbia, MO. The incumbent serves on a team responsible for the whole range of data management for the unit's research activities, and provides leadership for the interface between acquisition tools (data collectors) and the databases themselves.
Major Duties
- Programs field data collection equipment, managing the regular communications of data via telemetry and other means.
- Ensures production and availability of consistent and complete metadata.
- Provides expertise in recommending new software or hardware necessary for data management.
- Produces interim reports and visual presentations for QA and scientific purposes, and participates as needed in delivering scientific information to the public.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. Time in grade: Applicants must have one year at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-14 grade level for consideration for the GS-15 grade level). NOTE: In addition to the qualifications below, Applicants must meet at least one of the basic education requirements detailed in the Education section below to qualify for this position. AND Specialized Experience At The GS-09:Qualifying experience for GS-09 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience managing a relational database for agronomic, ecological, or environmental data; incorporating quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) methods; and performing data query and analysis procedures. OR Education: Successful completion of 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. Related degrees may include Statistics, Information Systems, and Computer Science. OR A combination of graduate level education and experience as described above. At The GS-11:
Qualifying experience for GS-11 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-09 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience managing a relational database for agronomic, ecological, or environmental data; incorporating quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) methods; developing data query and analysis procedures; and performing the data stream process from field data collection to maintaining user-accessible databases. OR Education: Successful completion of 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Related degrees may include Statistics, Information Systems, and Computer Science. OR A combination of Ph.D. level education and experience as described above. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Pay Range
$52,905.00 - $83,210.00
