Job Summary
BLM is seeking a dynamic and energetic student to join the team and gain valuable work experience as Student Trainee (Land Survey). This position is part of the BLM Alaska, Bureau of Land Management in Anchorage, Alaska. Major Duties
As a Student Trainee (Land Survey) you will
- Assist in performing Survey using full filed to finish mode.
- Assist with and/or plan and conduct simple and routine survey or small pieces of large survey projects.
- Prepare draft field notes, plats, reports and other administrative documents that document assigned work.
Qualifications
To be eligible, an applicant must:Be a student who has been accepted for enrollment or is currently enrolled at least half-time in a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) seeking program in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school.Possess a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 or higher.Be at least 18 years of age or older for an arduous or hazardous duty position.In order to assess you meet a qualified status for this position and to refer you to the hiring manager, the agency must be able to determine that you meet the qualifications based on completed education, specialized experience, and/or both - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. You may qualify at the GS-07 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
- Specialized experience: have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Examples include serve as the head of small party on routine surveying assignments utilizing a variety of survey equipment including total stations, data collectors, hand held calculators, and GPS receivers. OR
- Education: have one year of graduate-level education in Land Surveying or Civil Engineering with surveying option/emphasis. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. OR
- Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) and completion of a bachelor degree. SAA is defined as: (1) class standing - upper third of the graduating class based on completed courses in the college, university or major subdivision; OR (2) grade point average - 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on my official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B " or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR (3) election to membership in a national scholastic honor society (note: membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision). Must submit a copy of your transcript and proof of GPA computation, Class standing, or Honor Society membership. OR
- A combination of education and experience as listed above.
Pay Range
$46,859.00 - $90,160.00
