Job Summary

Serve as a Supervisory Environmental Engineer (District Engineer) with the Division of Sanitation Facilities Construction in Tuba City, Arizona. Assignments involve complex, difficult problems of analysis, including economic factors and the interpretation and compliance with environmental engineering design criteria.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): All applicants must meet one of the following Basic Requirements:

A. Degree: Professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) Be in a school of engineering with at least on curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) Include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR

B. Combination of education and experience - college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) A thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.

The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (1) Professional Registration; or (2) Written Test (Engineer-in-Training); or (3) Specified Academic Courses; or (4) Related Curriculum.

In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. "The type of experience which will be credited are: professional knowledge of theories, principles, practices and techniques of Engineering. This experience would have to include preparing program budgets, providing advice and guidance on program activities to a variety of individuals and preparing complex technical reports."

Selective Placement Factor: The following Selective Placement Factor has been determined to be essential for the position: Applicant for this position must have current registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Must submit copy of registration.

SUPERVISORY OR MANAGERIAL ABILITIES: Candidates must have demonstrated in their work experience or training that they possess, or have the potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as listed under the appropriate category below:

a. Ability to motivate, train, and work effectively with subordinates who have a variety of backgrounds and training.

b. Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected within set limits of cost and time.

c. Ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively.

d. Ability to communicate with others effectively both orally and in writing in working out solutions to problems or questions

relating to the work.

e. Ability to understand and further management goals as these affect day-to-day work operations.

f. Ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures.

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Pay Range

$76,721.00 - $99,741.00
