Job Summary
The successful candidate in this position will serve as the DeputyAssistant Manager for Field Operationsfor the National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA), Los Alamos Field Office (LAFO)providing leadership and direction for the on-site management and oversight of Los Alamos National Laboratory(LANL) Nuclear and High Hazard Operations to support the achievement of a critical Department of Energy, NNSA mission.
Major Duties
As a Supervisory General Engineer/Physical Scientist, you will:
- Serve as a technical expert in the leadership and management, and development and implementation in all matters relating to field assessments and oversight activities for the Facility Representative Team and Safety System Oversight Team.
- Develop strategic and operational plans to identify work to be accomplished by subordinate teams.
- Lead staff, manage resources and oversee the work of the M&O contractor to accomplish the operations oversight mission of the office.
- Disseminate and exchanges policy and other information directly impacting on NNSA/Departmental goals and to motivate and inform subordinate staff.
- Resolve problem situations and controversial and technical matters, seek the cooperation, participation, and coordination of local officials, agency leaders and private industry representatives.
- Provide complex managerial, professional, and technical support to the overall mission assigned to the NNSA, Los Alamos Field Office.
- Identify financial, material, and human resource requirements and manage resources to accomplish goals and objectives, and reports progress toward meeting these goals, indicating any problems or processing roadblocks which inhibit accomplishment of mission in a safe manner.
- Perform both technical and administrative supervision over complex work and is responsible for assigning and reviewing work, training, developing and mentoring staff; developing and accessing performance; recognizing accomplishments and counseling staff members on conduct and performance issues.
Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSIn addition to the positive education required aqualified candidate’s online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA pay band or GS grade level in the Federal Service, i.e., EN-03, NN-03 or GS-13.
Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Experience ensuring programmatic and regulatory compliance of programs and projects; reviewing and interpreting guidance, programs plans and strategies; and resolving or recommending solutions to significant scientific, engineering, or program management problems and issues related to nuclear, high-hazard, and non-nuclear operations.
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: 1) Planning, directing, coordinating and managing federal oversight of nuclear, high-hazard, and non-nuclear operations; 2) Providing leadership and oversight of on-site project/program management of nuclear, high-hazard, and non-nuclear operations to accomplish mission safely.

Pay Range
$105,302.00 - $168,454.00
