Major Duties
The incumbent provides focus, leadership, supervision, and professional work in Forestry, Hydrology, Range, and Recreation programs within the framework of BLM's multiple use mission. The incumbent reports directly to the Assistant Field Manager (AFM) for Resources. This position works on an interdisciplinary team of resource management professionals to implement travel management plans, special recreation permits, grazing lease renewals, and timber sales.
Physical Demands: The work requires considerable physical stamina. Field work involves walking, bending, stooping, lifting, climbing, and operating All-Terrain and four wheel drive vehicles in rugged terrain. Field work is performed approximately 25% of the time. The work also requires a fair amount of time spent in the office utilizing various forms of computer hardware, and sitting or standing at a desk.
Work Environment: Field work conditions vary from hot summers to cold winters involving extreme discomforts at times and requiring safety/health precautions such as appropriate clothing, planning ahead for being stranded, and use of first aid equipment. The office environment is relaxed but productive with rigid deadlines and high work productivity expectations of the incumbent.
Qualifications
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the basic education requirement as stated in the Requirements section of this announcement AND thespecialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-11) of the position to be filled.
Specialized experience is defined as: 1.)Experience in supervisory duties including but not limited to: personnel management, performance evaluation and management, scheduling and approving leave, and providing leadership, direction, and work assignments to staff. 2.)Technical experience with range health assessments, planning and implementing range improvement projects, timber sales, monitoring weather stations.3.) Reviewing and ensuring compliance of special recreation permits and performing compliance checks for permitted activities. And 4.) Experience preparing and reviewing NEPA documents.
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
Pay Range
$76,721.00 - $99,741.00
