Job Summary
This position is part of the R6-Division of Realty. As a Survey Technician you will be responsible for a variety of types of surveys using theodolites, total stations, levels, distance measuring devices, Geographic Positioning System (GPS), and other specialized survey instruments.
Major Duties
TEMPORARY 1039: This is a full-time temporary position not-to-exceed 1 year that will total less than 1040 hours (6 months), excluding overtime in a service year. The service year is the calendar year that begins on the date of the employee's initial appointment in the agency.
Performs the full scope of surveying aid type duties and a variety of surveying technical duties.
Serves as crew member and occasionally crew lead for specific projects.
Performs the following duties:
Serves as instrument person on a variety of types of surveys using theodolites, total stations, levels, distance measuring devices, Geographic Positioning System (GPS), and other specialized survey instruments.
The work is characterized by elements such as, measuring distances between known points, both horizontally and vertically.
Typically, reads distances, angles, and differences in elevation between stations.
Reduces raw data in the field while progressing along the survey line.
Prepares or reviews the preparation of field notes, survey diagrams, and computations to determine whether closures are within prescribed limits of accuracy.
Assists in corner calculations and is responsible for monumentation and recording of corner positions.
Enters data into data bases and retrieves data from data bases.
Qualifications
Only experience and education obtained by You may qualify at the GS-05 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements: Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrated by the use of the pertinent instruments and techniques of surveying. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to, work as an engineering technician, soil conservation technician, or construction inspector; OR Have successfully completed a full 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution (a) with major study in an appropriate field of surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses that include at least one course in surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics; OR Have a combination of education and experience as listed above.
Pay Range
$34,916.00 - $49,770.00
